History of the School
The idea to found a preschool took hold in our founder out of the conviction that in order to contribute to the happiness of children, it was necessary to create a stimulating school environment. Her experience acquired over many years of contact and new pedagogical thought centered around the teachings of John Dewey. Some of these are, namely:
Children have inalienable rights which should be respected.
The child should be shaped to belive in the existence of God and it is through the beginning of this knowledge that essential bases and virtues are constructed. These must suffice for the particular life of the adult also.
The child has a particular way of seeing the world through which is educational process should be directed.
all adults who constitute the child´s environment are responsible for what occurs during the educational process.
The child´s health should be monitored at school where prevention and nutrition are concerned. Prevention and nutrition are terms that are complementary.
John Dewey School has always been concerned withthis happiness. Gladys Elizabeth Hernández de Bravo´s saying is, "The child as an individual has the right to receive a continuous and consistent education that is neither discrimiinatory nor traumatic, and one that will allow her/his basic development successfully.
Bilingual students graduate with a great emphasis in art in whatever area - music, painting, ballet, theatre or writing from the point of view of the person as a spiritual being which is that of the permanent explorer. They adopt the John Dewey educational philosophy which encourages an education that stems from questioning. It also encourages development of the clild´s sensibilities which fosters discovery in a manner that is clear and allowing of every advantage.
The development of virtues leads our educational spirit and creates a complete institutional vision and mission from which we obtain happy children committed to learning globally around which we incorporate our bilingual methodology.
From the outset Gladys had in mind a construction project parallel to her way of thinking. This project was shaped by the architect Francisco Calderon zuleta. The search for the ideal property ended with the purchase of a spacious lot in the Alhambra neighborhood. With Calderons´s project and the assistance of the "Minuto de Dios" Corporation, the structure, with few changes, took shape. The hexagonal form of the domes complies to a high degree with the pre-established ambitions in the project´s desingn to offer the students warm and broad spaces. The highest aspiration is to offer, within the institution itself, university development for those who are inclined toward a teaching career. On hand are teachers who have fully experienced the model and who are trained to apply as well as improve it in future generations.
